Description

In 2011, Libya’s highly centralised state regime collapses and the country enters a period of high tension and conflict. Subsequently, the decentralisation process begins, also sanctioned by the 2012 Constitution, which emphasises the local level as the basis on which to build the structure of the future Libyan state.

The event aims to offer keys to understanding the challenges that test the nation state and to highlight the role that local authorities can play in this context.

The event is also an opportunity to present the Nicosia Initiative, a Libyan-European programme for dialogue and exchange between European local authorities, and in particular the REBUILD training and mentoring project, coordinated by the Autonomous Province of Trento in cooperation with ten Libyan municipalities and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, with the technical support of the Centre for International Cooperation.
